The Hunger
Site An incredibly easy way to practice a corporal work of
mercy. "Then the King will say to those at his right hand,
Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared
for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and
you gave me food... for inasmuch as you did it to one of the
least of these my brethren, you did it to me."--
Matthew 25:34ff.
And when you
are done visiting the Hunger Site, go the extra mile and click on
yet another incredibly easy way to practice the corporal works of
mercy, The
Birth Site
New Advent A
nice compendium of resources by the dry and hilarious Kevin
Knight. Includes the Summa Theologiae online, as well as
a bunch of handy source documents and other sites.
Catherine of Siena Institute I am not
exaggerating when I say this apostolate understands the Church's
theology of the laity better than anyone else in the world. If
you want to know how to live out your vocation as a layperson and
how that ties in with the Church's teaching on charisms and lay
vocation, I cannot recommend these guys highly enough! Check out
their wonderful Called and Gifted program. Brilliant!
DominICON Fr. Brendan McAnerny, O.P. is a
Dominican with faculties in both the Latin and Byzantine
traditions. He writes icons and teaches wonderful classes on the
art and spirituality of the icon. In fact, he wrote the Catherine
of Siena Institute icon! Take his class. You won't be sorry!
Institute of Applied Biblical Studies Scott
Hahn is easily one of the sharpest and most interesting exegetes
of Scripture writing today. He is also a terrific teacher, and a
dear friend. If you want revolutionize your understanding of both
Scripture and the Catholic Faith, he's a fine guide.
Ignatius Press Fine publisher featuring
Chesterton, Kreeft and Howard. What else do you need?
Catholic
Outlook Gary Hoge, Fairy Godfather of this site, is a great
guy with a great site.
Defenders
of the Catholic Faith Steve "Jerusalem Jones" Ray:
a man, a legend, a way of life.
Greg
Krehbiel is a mensch. He thinks outside the box, yet always
in faithfulness to the Church and, though I don't always agree
with him, I always find him challenging and a straight arrow. His
daily
commentary on the news is fun. And he runs a nice little
group of discussion boards populated by grownups.
St. Joseph Communications A fine Catholic
apostolate with all the tapes in the universe of my friends Scott
Hahn, Jeff Cavins, and Steve Ray, among others. What's that you
ask? Why yes! As a matter of fact, they do sell some of
my tapes too! How nice of
you to ask!
Catholic Answers Another fine Catholic
apostolate devoted to evangelization and apologetics. How's that
again? Well, now that you mention it, these guys also
sell some of my tapes! And
they publish some of my articles. Small woild, ain't it?
Biblical
Evidence for Catholicism Dave Armstrong sallies forth to tell
the world about the Catholic Faith and meets many colorful
characters along the road. Lots of resources. And who could not
love a guy with cyber-shrines to Chesterton, Howard and
Kreeft?
Zenit All the news the New York Times
is unfit to print.
Tom
Curran Ministries A fine apostolate devoted to helping
Catholics come alive in faith by encountering the truth and love
of God revealed by Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.
The Nazareth Resource Library James Akin, who
has forgotten more about Catholic theology than I will ever know
continues his quest to put it all down in ASCII for the world's
benefit. Check it out!
A lovely
priest of my acquaintance, Fr. Phil
Bloom, has a nice little site with all sorts of interesting
little nuggets!
Also, Cathy Koenig
is a Catholic homeschooling mom with an unusual hobby and a
basically fun outlook on life.
St. Joseph Covenant Keepers, run by the
wonderful Steve Wood, is an apostolate dedicated to nurturing the
family and, in particular, to showing men how to be husbands and
fathers and not the selfish maroons our culture urges them to be.
Lint
Hatcher thinks different. He is the sort of person who shows
by his delightfully quirky and idiosyncratic approach to life how
orthodoxy revels in creativity.
Speaking of which, his... er, brainchild (along with the great Rod Bennett) was the late lamented Wonder Magazine.
Amy
Welborn runs one of the best and most thoughtful Catholic
blogsites anywhere in cyberspace. She avoids both the euphemizing
Happy Talk of much of the Catholic press yet, as a serious,
intelligent, and faithful Catholic, also avoids the stupid
conclusions and outright lies about the Catholic faith that so
many unbelieving Catholic and non-Catholic journalists on the
extremes of Right and Left fall into. Result: a clear-eyed guide
for the Perplexed. As Rod Dreher at National
Review Online says, "Why would anybody bother with
a diocesan newspaper now?"
